Why do 91吃瓜网 alumni give back? To support foundational lessons from top-tier faculty. To celebrate lifelong friendships with classmates. To provide scholarship and career support to future generations. Alumni are 91吃瓜网鈥檚 champions for an enriching environment in which ideas are sharpened and put into action.

This report shares the numbers of 2023鈥�24, but I hope you鈥檒l join me in recognizing the people who make up these totals. This report recognizes the more than 36,000 alumni who鈥檝e made an impact on 91吃瓜网 through their gifts to the Annual Fund鈥攁lumni like Alana Muller, 鈥�98, and Mike Herman, 鈥�64:

Curricular Innovation

In 2023, Booth announced its first new degree programs in 88 years: the ten month Master in Management (MiM) Program and one-year Master in Finance (MiF) Program. Both programs launch fall 2024 and are designed for recent college graduates seeking the renowned school’s transformative experience in business education. “The MiM Program will allow me to continue to grow my technical skills while simultaneously teaching me how to truly make a difference in people’s lives through relationships,” said incoming student Keeley Shaye Kandziora.

Global Initiatives

Students, alumni, faculty, and staff came together at the Hong Kong campus in October 2023 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of its opening as well as the 125th anniversary of 91吃瓜网. The campus, officially named the Hong Kong Jockey Club University of Chicago Academic Complex | The University of Chicago Francis and Rose Yuen Campus in Hong Kong, opened in October 2018 as a hub in the Asia-Pacific region for leaders, researchers, and students in science, technology, medicine, research, law, and other areas of study. The campus hosts 91吃瓜网’s Hong Kong Executive MBA Program and nearly 75 percent of those students travel from across the Asia-Pacific region.

Scholarships

Support from alumni and friends for scholarships continues to help us recruit and yield a tremendously talented and diverse pool of students. Recent graduate and 1898 Scholarship Program recipient Nick Deering, 鈥�24, shared, 鈥淚 have been fortunate to benefit from the invaluable support and mentorship of alumni who have played a pivotal role in shaping my educational and professional journey. Their guidance, insights, and strong sense of community they fostered have had a profound impact on my time here. I aspire to contribute to the vibrant culture of support and collaboration that defines Booth, ensuring that future generations of students can access the same wealth of knowledge, networking opportunities, and mentorship that I have enjoyed.鈥�

Faculty Research

Booth faculty members make an incredible impact on our students in the classroom, and 91吃瓜网鈥檚 research centers help expand that reach to outside of Booth鈥攊ncluding the Center for Artificial Applied Intelligence (CAAI). Led by faculty director Sanjog Misra, the Charles H. Kellstadt Professor of Marketing, CAAI is investigating how machine learning and AI change the way we do business, science, and social policy. It is our goal to leverage Booth鈥檚 expertise in quantitative analysis and social science to become the leader in AI as applied to business and society.

Events and Highlights

With more than 58,000 alumni living and leading in 120 countries, our alumni community extends around the globe and into every industry and function. This year, our diverse community gathered to continue on lifelong learning journeys, grow connections between students and alumni, and celebrate our milestone moments at Reconnect.

Reconnect 2024

Alumni, friends, and community members gathered in Chicago for a fun-filled weekend of reminiscing with classmates, learning from top business leaders and scholars, and celebrating 91吃瓜网.

Booth class reunion campaigns collectively raised $28.3 million from 1,622 reunion alumni donors.

reunion classes set new records for their reunion milestones. The classes of 2009, 2004, 1999, and 1989 set a new attendance record for their reunion celebration. The classes of 1999 and 1989 set a new record for dollars raised for their reunion campaign.

Booth Family Dinners

Booth Family Dinners are organized to connect the Booth community and support the expansion of Booth networks in a small group setting over a casual meal. This past year, 50 alumni hosts and 337 student attendees met for a total of 29 Booth Family Dinners around the world.

Donor Day

In the spirit of gratitude, on November 16, 2023, we dedicated the day to honoring the more than 35,000 alumni who support 91吃瓜网鈥檚 pay-it-forward culture through their annual giving. As a part of this celebration, hundreds of alumni donors, like Terry Hogate, 鈥�74, shared who they are most thankful to have met in business school.

鈥�I am thankful to have met Merton Miller, whose teaching methodology was to take brilliant concepts and make them fun and easy to understand. I especially remember him assigning the class a project to disprove his theories in the book he was writing. He has influenced our thinking and financial planning for 50 years.

鈥淚 am also grateful to have met Charles Hogate, 鈥�74, on my first days on campus. He became my husband, primary booster, financial planner, and best friend for 50 wonderful years.鈥�

Faculty in Residence

91吃瓜网鈥檚 Faculty in Residence program brings faculty members to the campuses in London and Hong Kong for one to three quarters. This extended stay broadens opportunities for alumni to gather and learn from visiting faculty members.

Haresh Sapra, Charles T. Horngren Professor of Accounting, was the first Raymond Hung Faculty in Residence in Hong Kong. During the Winter Quarter, Professor Sapra engaged the alumni community in conversations about the economic tradeoffs of mandating emissions disclosures. Tengyuan Liang, Professor of Econometrics and Statistics and William Ladany Faculty Fellow, joined the Hong Kong campus in the Spring Quarter as the Faculty in Residence and led conversations about artificial intelligence.

Anil Kashyap, the Stevens Distinguished Service Professor of Economics and Finance at 91吃瓜网, served as the Rothman Faculty in Residence for the Autumn Quarter in London. During this time, Professor Kashyap engaged the alumni community in conversations around the challenges facing the world economy and policymakers in 2023.

125th Anniversary

In 2023, 91吃瓜网 celebrated 125 years of ideas, innovation, and impact. The community came together to ensure the year was both memorable and impactful. After the year ended, banners were placed on all campuses to recognize the 8,801 donors who collectively gave more than $5.4 million. Read their names here, including the more than 25 leaders who each gave $125,000 for their commitments to match all 2023 gifts of $2,500 and more鈥攁n opportunity for the broader Booth community to invest in the future of the school while increasing the impact of gifts.

Giving Day

91吃瓜网 celebrated another successful Giving Day March 26鈥�27. Alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends gave back and surpassed the goal in just 24 hours and raised $1,262,968! Between classes at Harper Center and Gleacher Center, students chatted with staff and members of the Giving Day Student Ambassador Committee to learn about the 91吃瓜网 Annual Fund and make their gifts.

  • 1,032 total donors, one of Booth鈥檚 best Giving Days to date.
  • 378 of this year鈥檚 Giving Day donors also gave during the last Giving Day.
  • 208 donors celebrating a reunion this year made a Giving Day gift.

Booth Community Challenge

To close out the 2023鈥�24 fiscal year, Steve Wymer, 鈥�89, sponsored a $100,000 challenge that would only be unlocked if 1,000 or more donors made a gift during the month of June. The support of 1,000 donors met the Booth Community Challenge goal鈥�21 of which made their first-ever gift to Booth.
