Join the Tolan Center for Healthcare for a conversation with Andrew Hack, AB'95, PhD'00, MD'02, Partner at Bain Capital Life Sciences, in discussion with Brian Coe, Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship, as part of our Healthcare Speaker Series.

As a Partner at Bain Capital Life Sciences, Andrew focuses on private equity investments in companies developing transformative medicines, medical devices, diagnostics, and life sciences tools. Previously, he was CFO of Editas Medicine, the first publicly-listed CRISPR gene editing company. He also served as a portfolio manager at Millennium Management and began his career as a securities analyst at several healthcare-focused hedge funds and investment banks.

This session will offer insights relevant to life sciences, investing, and leading organizations in the healthcare industry.

Tolan Center Scholar in Residence: Sylvia Chou 

On April 23, Scholar in Residence, Sylvia Chou will present: Public Health and Civil Society at a Crossroads: The State of Science & Opportunities to Defend Its Integrity.
 
Wen-Ying Sylvia Chou, PhD, MPH will be visiting the Tolan Center for Healthcare as a Scholar at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and founder of Mosaic Research Fund. As a prolific health communication scholar with over 125 peer-reviewed publications, her research on misinformation, social media, and end-of-life discourse have been referenced in major media outlets. Her recent interests include understanding and addressing the spread of health misinformation, relationship-centered health communication, and the use of mixed methods in supporting patient-centered health research.  Chou has been outspoken in the media in defense of science and its role in democracy.
 
This talk will appeal broadly to future leaders of (and investors in) provider, payer, life science and medtech firms, as well as digital health entrepreneurs, where patient trust is foundational.

Healthcare Scholar in Residence (Spring 2026)

April 2026

Researcher Sylvia Chou is former Director in the Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch (HCIRB) of the Behavioral Research Program (BRP) at the National Cancer Institute. Her work centers on health messaging and misinformation. She visits campus this Spring as a guest in the Scholar-in-Residence program of the Tolan Center for Healthcare.

The Healthcare Analytics Laboratory recruits PhD students, MD students, residents, and MBA students with significant content expertise in healthcare to join the Lab as mentors, research assistants, and content experts.

Healthcare Fellowship

The Booth Healthcare Fellowship is awarded each year to select incoming Full-Time MBA students with backgrounds in a care provider role (e.g. MD, RN, Social work in a healthcare setting).

The aim of the program is to provide tuition support, foster community among the Fellows, and provide additional access or support. Such areas of support include one-on-one conversations with distinguished speakers at events sponsored or co-sponsored by the Tolan Center, covered fees for the annual Booth student-led Healthcare Conference and more programming.
